The Challenge
The Dongguan-Huizhou Intercity Railway traverses densely populated urban centers and sensitive ecological zones. With a design speed of 200 km/h, the project faced significant acoustic challenges, particularly regarding the noise impact on surrounding communities from viaduct and embankment sections. The requirement called for a versatile noise mitigation system that could provide high-performance sound insulation while maintaining visual transparency and structural aesthetic harmony with the urban landscape.
Solution
To meet these complex environmental and engineering requirements, we implemented a multi-tiered noise control strategy:
- Hybrid Barrier Design: A combination of high-strength metallic panels and transparent acoustic sections was utilized. This ensures effective noise shielding while reducing the visual “tunnel effect” for passengers and maintaining natural light for surrounding areas.
- Advanced Top-Mounted Diffractors: For specific high-sensitivity segments, we installed top-mounted noise reduction caps (diffractors) to further suppress sound diffraction at the upper edge of the barriers, maximizing quiet zones for nearby residents.
- Comprehensive Supply: We provided over 50,000 m² of sound barrier systems, covering bridge sections, embankments, and station-adjacent tracks across the entire line.
Execution and Outcomes
Working within the high-traffic corridor of the Pearl River Delta, our team ensured a precise delivery schedule that aligned with the railway’s rapid construction phases. The integrated solution successfully mitigated operational noise to within national environmental limits, allowing the 200 km/h intercity service to coexist harmoniously with the rapidly developing urban environment of Dongguan and Huizhou.
