The Shanghai Humin project is a critical component of the city’s Middle Ring Road interchange system. As a key urban artery, this segment handles complex traffic flows between the West-to-South ramp and the Lianhua Road junction. Our company was commissioned to provide a comprehensive acoustic shielding system to manage the significant noise impact on the surrounding urban environment while maintaining the structural and aesthetic integrity of the elevated infrastructure.

The Challenge
The project covers a vast area involving both sections under construction and existing roads open to traffic. Located at the intersection of the Middle Ring Road and Jiamin Overhead, the site presented significant logistical challenges. Specifically, the installation had to account for existing light poles, requiring a non-standard, customized approach to ensure the continuity of the sound barrier without compromising essential road lighting.
Solution
To address these technical and environmental requirements, we implemented a sophisticated multi-tiered barrier system designed for maximum acoustic performance:
- Louver Panel (Upper Section): Positioned at the top to break up sound waves while allowing for airflow and visual lightness.
- Perforated Panel (Lower Section): Engineered to absorb low-frequency vehicular noise near the road surface, preventing sound reflection.
- Glass Panel (Middle Section): Provides a transparent acoustic buffer, maintaining sightlines for drivers and reducing the visual “tunnel effect.”
- Curved Top Cap: A specialized structural finish that enhances the aerodynamic profile of the barrier and further deflects rising sound waves.
Execution and Outcomes
A standout feature of our execution was the Outer-Wrap Method used for the light pole sections. This custom, irregular barrier installation allowed the soundproofing structure to seamlessly bypass infrastructure obstacles. Our company took full responsibility for both the precise manufacturing and the complex installation of the entire system. The result is a high-performance acoustic shield that meets all design specifications, providing a quieter environment for the Lianhua Road and Shangzhong Road corridors.
