Metal Perforated Noise Barrier Project-Urban Expressway
Our company completed the full processing and installation of the acoustic barrier system for the Kunshan Medium Ring quick reconstruction project. This project focused on upgrading the city’s elevated infrastructure to ensure high-capacity traffic flow while meeting strict environmental noise standards.

The Challenge
The primary engineering challenge involved addressing the specific frequency spectrum of urban traffic noise. Detailed analysis indicated that radiation sound levels within the 100–2000Hz range—dominated by medium and low frequencies—posed the greatest disturbance to the surrounding urban environment. Additionally, the project required a solution that mitigated the “closed-in” or depressive feeling often associated with long stretches of solid barriers on elevated bridges
Solution
To address these acoustic and aesthetic requirements, we implemented a sophisticated multi-material barrier strategy:
- Targeted Frequency Absorption: We utilized a metal micro perforated acoustic panel as the primary sound absorption material. This material was specifically selected for its superior performance in dampening the 100–2000Hz frequency range.
- Diffraction Control: The barrier features a single-sided straight curved screen design. This specific geometry is engineered to reduce the diffraction of sound waves over the top of the barrier, particularly effective against low-frequency waves.
- Hybrid Material Collocation: PC Board: Used for standard transparent sections to maintain durability and safety. Glass Material: Integrated for road viewing screens; while not sound-absorbent, glass provides high noise insulation, cost-efficiency, and maximum clarity.
Execution and Outcomes
The project was executed with a focus on both technical performance and roadside landscape aesthetics. By combining high-performance absorption boards with transparent PC and glass sections, we achieved:
- Enhanced Permeability: Increased daylighting and visibility, significantly reducing the depressive visual impact of the barrier for drivers and residents alike.
- Superior Noise Mitigation: The reasonable collocation of materials ensured that the medium and low-frequency noise was effectively contained.
- Landscape Integration: The final installation improved the overall roadside landscape effect, proving that industrial noise solutions can contribute positively to urban design.
