Fully Enclosed Noise Barrier Project-Nanjing Metro Property
Located in the Jiangning University Town, the Jinlun Huafu development is a prime example of integrated Transit-Oriented Development (TOD). Situated adjacent to the China Pharmaceutical University Station on the Nanjing Metro Line 1 South Extension, the project required a sophisticated acoustic strategy to harmonise high-density residential living with active transit infrastructure, including the nearby depot access and maintenance facilities.

The Challenge
The project site faced stringent environmental mandates. Following the submission of the “Environmental Impact Report” in early 2014, the Nanjing Environmental Protection Bureau required a solution that could mitigate noise specifically originating from the metro maintenance depot entrance and the surrounding access tracks. The core challenge was to provide effective noise suppression for a residential development located directly over and adjacent to critical transit nodes.
Solution
To meet these rigorous environmental standards and ensure the livability of the Jinlun Huafu community, we engineered a specialized acoustic solution:
- U-Shaped Barrier Design: A custom U-shaped noise barrier was implemented at the depot/maintenance facility entrance. This design choice was critical for containing noise emissions from three sides, preventing the spread of sound towards the residential development.
- Environmental Integration: The barrier was installed to fully satisfy the requirements set forth by the local environmental authorities, ensuring that the property remains within the permissible noise thresholds for residential occupancy.
- Compliance-Driven Engineering: The entire installation was executed to match the technical specifications defined in the 2014 Environmental Impact Report, transforming a challenging site into a benchmark for modern TOD acoustic management.
Outcomes
Our deployment of the U-shaped barrier effectively shielded the Jinlun Huafu property from the operational noise of the Line 1 maintenance depot. By prioritizing precision noise control at the source, we successfully fulfilled the mandate from the Nanjing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, facilitating the sustainable development of this high-value urban property.
